Over the past two years, COVID-19 has affected all of us, including me. Politically, my position has always been to support an individual’s freedom to decide what is right for them. Therefore, I’m against any COVID mandate that will interfere with your right to choose what you put into your body. Personally, I am not “anti-vaccine” or “pro-vaccine”. I have friends and family that are both vaccinated and unvaccinated. I believe the government’s role is to provide the data and tools needed to make well-informed decisions. Therefore, as County Executive, I will lift the current mandate that all Anne Arundel County employees must be vaccinated or subject to weekly testing.
For business owners, I support your right to make the decisions that are in your company’s best interest. If you choose to require your employees to be vaccinated, I will support your decision. However, I plan to work with the County Council to pass a bill requiring companies with vaccine mandates to have in place reasonable accommodations for employees who choose not to vaccinate.
Finally, I will propose legislation that prevents any unelected official from enforcing any mandate, without County Council approval. Unelected officials should not make important decisions that affect the residents of our county without executive and legislative approval.
